Laureate Institute of Pharmacy, Kathog, Jawalamukhi, Kangra, proudly celebrated World Pharmacists Day and Pharmacy Week 2026 on 25 September 2026, in alignment with the global theme “Empowering Pharmacists for Healthier Futures” and the national mission “Swastha Bharat: Combating Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)”, as set by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).
The celebrations commenced with an impactful Awareness Rally at Jawalamukhi, which was flagged off by Shri Hemraj Bairwa, Deputy Commissioner, Kangra. The rally aimed to create awareness among the public about antimicrobial resistance, responsible medicine use, and the important role of pharmacists in safeguarding public health.
The pharmacy students further strengthened the public-awareness campaign through an engaging Nukkad Natak, highlighting the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance, the hazards of irrational antibiotic use, and the importance of taking medicines responsibly and only as advised by qualified healthcare professionals.
Prof. (Dr.) Mahendra Singh Ashawat, Director-cum-Principal, Laureate Institute of Pharmacy, appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the students and faculty and emphasized the significant role of pharmacists in promoting rational drug use, antimicrobial stewardship, patient safety, and community health. He encouraged the students to actively contribute to public-health initiatives and to uphold the professional responsibilities of the pharmacy profession.
Dr. C. P. S. Verma, Dean, Student Welfare, appreciated the active involvement of the students and highlighted the importance of co-curricular and community-oriented activities in developing leadership, teamwork, communication skills, social responsibility, and professional values among future pharmacists.
The event was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Shiv Kumar Kushwaha, Professor & Head, Department of Pharmacology and Nodal Officer of the event, with the active support of faculty members and students.
The celebration was an enriching blend of knowledge, community engagement, social responsibility, and public-health awareness. It reaffirmed the vital role of pharmacists in promoting rational medicine use, combating antimicrobial resistance, safeguarding public health, and contributing towards a healthier future.
