The Pharmacognosy Department is dedicated to the explore, formulation design and scientific validation of medicinal plants. The department is actively engaged in interdisciplinary research focused on the discovery of herbal drugs.
The department is equipped with advanced labs for herbal drug extraction and formulation, a microscopy and plant anatomy lab with Camera Lucida, stage and eyepiece micrometers, and cutting-edge chromatographic tools like TLC, HPLC (Shimadzu & Water 600), and HPTLC (Biostep – Bionis). It also features UV-Vis (1900i Shimadzu), IR (Shimadzu), and FTIR (Shimadzu) spectroscopic analysis, along with rotary evaporator and quality control apparatus such as a muffle furnace and UV cabinet. A thriving herbal garden and raw drug repository provide hands-on learning and research opportunities.
The department is actively engaged in interdisciplinary research projects focused on the development of herbal formulations, standardization and quality control of herbal products, ethanopharmacological studies, isolating and characterizing bioactive compounds, and pharmacological evaluation of medicinal plants.
